A novel of terrible first impressions, hilarious second chances, and the joy in finding your perfect match.

“Yours Truly” by Abby Jimenez is going to be one of my Summer favorites! This is a book that I hugged multiple times. It has a premise that had me turning the pages until late, late, late (or early morning maybe), characters you will LOVE, and a three legged dog that makes you go “AHH.”

Briana Ortiz is an ER doctor who is finding life a little difficult. She is going through a divorce and her ex seems to be a huge duche bag. Her brother is going through kidney failure and is waiting on the donor list. Her only bright spots are her best friend, Alexis and that she was looking forward to a promotion in her department.

But, then a new ER doctor is hired and her promotion is put on hold. Briana finds Dr Jacob Maddox so infuriating. He seems to say the wrong thing, appear at the wrong time, and he is oblivious to his drop dead sexy looks. Just when she is intent on hating him, he gives her a letter. Not just any letter, a really sweet letter! I was all…AWWWW! So maybe he is really likeable and just shy and bad at first impressions. They start to exchange letters and get to know each other. Briana discovers she was wrong about Jacob. He gives her and her brother the best gift. He is a kidney donor to her brother, and wants zero recognition.

In the midst of all this happening, Jacob finds out his brother is marrying his ex-girlfriend. So he ask Briana to be his date to the wedding. Their fake scheme for their families was THE BEST! There were so many parts I laughed out loud at and so many parts where I just hugged the book!

This was a 5 1/2 star book for sure! The themes were heavy, but handled with such care. The organ donation issue was such a tender issue and one I wasn’t aware that Abby Jimenez held so close to her heart until I read the author’s note. I’m sad to leave these funny characters. I think this was Jimenez’s best book so far. If you like the enemy to lovers trope this is for you, but it is so much more than just that trope. This should be on everyone’s summer reading list.

  1. LOVED this book! I give five amazing stars for this novel! From the moment I started reading, I knew I was going to love Briana and Jacob’s story. I can completely envision Jacob’s big, boisterous family (one I wish I could be a part of), as well as Briana’s friends and their feisty hospital colleagues. They all felt like very real people who exist entirely outside of the story. This was genuinely one of the sweetest books I’ve ever read. These were two of the most selfless characters I have ever read about. And the way Jimenez represented social anxiety in this book was just “chef’s kiss”. It was really heartwarming to read about two people who had given up on love, find true unconditional love.
