Star Rating System

~ Here is a breakdown of how we rate our books:

NOTE ON RATINGS:  We do consider a 3-star rating a positive review. We are very picky about which books we will give 5 stars.   We reserve that rating for the books that I find absolutely spectacular and that moved us.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

5 Stars = It was Amazing: These are books we could not put down and were so obsessed with that we were raving to everyone about them. The characters were memorable and their voices were unequivocal. The plot was unforgettable. The author’s writing style was unique or very smooth. The book also had great pacing. These are books that have staying power and that I will think about for a long time. Highly Recommended!

Rating: 4 out of 5.

4 Stars = Really liked it: This book was a really enjoyable read. We really liked it. Some moments we may have even loved.  There may have been a few things that we felt could be improved upon.  Or there may be nothing wrong with the book, it just didn’t blow us away.  We would recommend this book to most people and think most people would really enjoy this book. Go read this book!

Rating: 3 out of 5.

3 Stars = Liked it: This book was good. We didn’t love it and we didn’t dislike it.  There may have been some slow parts, but some good parts as well. We would still recommend this book; it just wasn’t a favorite of ours.

Rating: 2 out of 5.

2 Stars = It was okay: This wasn’t a great book. We probably read it because it was recommended. This book often lacks in some areas, such as characters, plot, pacing, or writing style. We may have enjoyed a few parts of this book.

Rating: 1 out of 5.

1 Star = Did not like it: We disliked this book and it had SEVERAL issues. There was really nothing to enjoy about this book.

DNF: Did Not Finish: We will not rate a book that we shelf as “did not finish.” We don’t like to put a rating on books we didn’t read from beginning to end.
