“There’s a difference between taking care of someone because you love them and taking care of someone because you want them to love you.”

“When you trust someone to see you for who you really are, the betrayal is a thousand times worse than if you hadn’t handed them the weapons in the first place.”

Things We Never Got Over is a contemporary romance novel that takes place in a small town in North Carolina. When Naomi arrives in town to the rescue of her troubled sister, she not only finds out she has an 11-year-old niece who was just abandoned and is in need of a guardian but was also robbed and left with no car or cash. Having just run away from her fiancé at the altar, and with no plans, she agrees to stay in town and care for her niece. Naomi soon finds an unlikely friend in her grumpy, tattooed neighbor, Knox, who despite his protests and annoying attitude, just can’t seem to stay away from her. The question is, how long can they resist the powerful attraction that pulls them together at every turn?

Wow, this book is definitely one that I will never get over 🙂 This is one of the best books I’ve ever read. I don’t even know where to start because I loved everything about the book. I was so moved by this book, I felt it in my soul. Do not be fooled by the page length (500+) pages, I was not able to put it down and took me only 3 days to read I was so invested! All the characters were likable and well-rounded, the dialogue was witty and funny, the plot was engaging, the suspense didn’t feel contrived or too cheesy, and the romance was breathtakingly believable. Though it is a romance novel, I felt that it was not like the rest. It was so much more real than your average boy meets girl, boy falls for girl.

I gave this book an easy five-star rating! It was hands down the best book I have read in a long time! I think what engaged me the most, would be that the characters were so realistic. It was not about some young successful woman in her twenties meeting Mr. Perfect. It was a woman in her late 30s, not knowing what she still wanted to do with her life and figuring out who she was and what she wanted out of life while coming across an older man who had baggage of his own to figure out. I give this book a very high recommendation! Hope others will feel the same!
