This was the perfect escapist vampire rom-com! I’d been eagerly awaiting this one since her first book, and it did not disappoint. It can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone, with a fantastic mix of humor and romance. The fake dating trope (which I love!) was done so well, and it fits perfectly with my vampire mood this month.

In this book, we get to know Reginald Cleaves (Reggie) from the first book a bit more. I didn’t care much for him in the first book, but here, I grew to understand and like him. He’s an eccentric, oddly dressed, centuries-old vampire with unpredictable quirks. One day, he has a chance encounter with a woman he can’t seem to get out of his mind.

Amelia Collins is a hardworking, successful accountant, much to her family’s dismay, still single. When she receives an invitation to her cousin’s wedding, she impulsively blurts out that she has a boyfriend. So, in true rom-com style, she and a friend head to a coffee shop to scout out a potential ‘date’ to bring. There, she spots a stranger who seems oddly familiar. She first notices that he is reading his book upside down but thinks he is cute anyway so decides to approach him, only to find out it was the guy who she ran into outside her office.

One thing leads to another, and Amelia ends up fake dating Reggie as her plus-one for the wedding. Reggie, as it happens, needs Amelia for a ruse of his own, making their arrangement mutually beneficial. But Amelia isn’t aware of why exactly he needed her at first. She just knows that he is very loyal to her for some reason and they end up in countless situations where they are thrown together.

I loved the funny, witty banter between them, with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. This book struck the perfect balance of humor and romance, keeping me entertained from start to finish. It’s ideal for anyone looking for a completely escapist read!
