Hart’s Landing was my first Melanie Harlow book, and while I enjoyed it, I had some mixed feelings about this one.
Mila returns to her small hometown after being away for ten years, hoping to avoid the memories and people she left behind. But that’s easier said than done, especially when Everett, her former crush and now the town’s mayor, seems to be everywhere. As the two reconnect, Mila also has to face some unresolved issues from her past.
This one started off strong, and I enjoyed the small-town setting and the romance between Mila and Everett. However, I felt like the story got a little repetitive, especially when it came to Mila’s mother’s constant criticism. I got the point pretty early on! I also thought the book could have been a little shorter.
Second-chance romances have always been a little harder for me to really get into, so that probably played a part in my feelings about this one. I know a lot of readers love Melanie Harlow’s books, and I can see why. This was still an entertaining read, even if it wasn’t a favorite for me.
And let’s face it, I’m always a sucker for a happy ending—even if it took a little longer than I would have liked to get there!
