This was an uneasy, but addictive read about marriage, betrayal, and the secrets that push us to the edge! If your a fan of Sally Hepworth, then you know what to expect in her novels. This was one I stayed up late to finish.

On the outside, Gabe and Pippa look like they have it all. A cute house, two cute daughters, and a loving family. But then we get to know all the characters and that takes a sharp u-turn. This one starts with Gabe attempting to save a gal, at their cliff-side home, from what appears to be a suicide attempt. Gabe and Pippa live in a popular suicide spot where people jump off the cliff on a regular basis. They weren’t aware of that when they bought the house, but Gabe insisted on the not so safe location.

The jumper, Amanda, is outside Gabe and Pippa’s house near their cliff and Gabe goes on his usual rescue attempt. He has talked 7 previous people down from the edge so he thinks this will be the same thing. Only, she ends up going over the edge. Pippa was in the house with the girls and only saw Gabe’s outstretched arms, which appeared to be palms down. Could he have really been trying to save her? Pippa’s first thought was that it looks like he pushed her, but Gabe would never do that so she puts it out of her mind.

This one had a twist that I didn’t see coming. There weren’t many likeable characters, but the plot moves quickly. It’s told from a few alternating POV’s. We hear mostly Pippa and Amanda’s story. It starts from the incident, then takes us back to the past and the story comes out in alternating time frames until the final twist. This is for fans of Hepworth’s previous books or for Ruth Ware fans.
