“I think we regular people may have forgotten a basic truth—we don’t really have the right to judge anyone else.”

After calling off her engagement in wake of a tragic revelation, Yuko Moriguchi had nothing to live for except her only child, four year old, Manami. Now, following an accident on the grounds of the middle school where she teaches, Yuko has given up and tendered her resignation. But first she has one last lecture to deliver. She tells a story that upends everything her students ever thought they knew about two of their peers, and sets in motion a maniacal plot for revenge.

This book is a series of confessions at the center of which lies the death of a child at the hands of two schoolboys. The victim is their homeroom teacher’s daughter and the book starts with her confession. Minato was very successful in setting up an eerie atmosphere. Actually it’s on the verge from being eerie to creepy. All the narrations were intriguing and interesting in there own way. The only issue was the repetitive events and repetitive narration which was okay at first but then I really started to get bored reading about them again and again. It did become slower at times, but with it being a shorter novel, it was easy to push through.

I gave this novel four stars. That ending was a game changer. I was like what the hell and wow at the same time. The revenge plan was messed up. This book was not quite what I expected it to be, but I still enjoyed it. If you are looking for an addicting and concise thought provoking psychological thriller, this would be a great read.
