I have read all Emily Henry’s books so this book was a no brainer! This is the forced proximity trope that I adore. This one starts out a little heartbreaking but it ends upbeat so it’s worth the ride.

This one starts out with Daphne and her then fiancé, Peter, telling the story of how they met and got together. Then the story take a drastic left turn and Peter dumps her after his bachelor party for his childhood best friend, Petra. Daphne had moved in with him so he offers to give her one week to move out while taking Petra to the Amalfi coast to vacation while she moves out. UGH – what a jerk! While she is there trying to pack and figure out what to do, Miles, Petra’s now ex-boyfriend, knocks and says he received a NOTE….only a note that Petra broke it off with him and he is looking for her. She explains that she has to find a new place to live so Miles says he has an empty room. So that’s how they the Ex’s of the jerks come to live together.

Daphne is a librarian who is pretty conservative and Miles is an bartender/odd jobs type of guy. They manage to live together pretty uneventfully until Daphne accidentally says she is dating Miles after receiving an invitation to Peter & Petra’s wedding. He goes along with it and they post a fake pic and one thing leads to another. All this time Daphne is counting down the days she can leave town. She is only staying for the Children’s Library fundraising event that happens every year.

This one made me laugh and cry. This is definitely in the top 2 favorites of my Emily Henry books! The characters were well developed and even the supporting characters were funny and interesting. The plot sucked me right in and I just had to know what was going to happen to Daphne’s broken heart. Was Miles going to help her mend it? Would Peter beg her to come back? Such good drama!
