“I never got to fall out of love. I just had to move on.”
“Favorite word?” he whispers.
I don’t even hesitate: “You.”
Love and Other words is a second chance love story told in alternating timelines about two people who met and fell in love while growing up and then re-met eleven years later. Teenage Elliot and Macy grow from friends to much more—spending weekends and lazy summers together in a house outside of San Francisco devouring books, sharing favorite words, and talking through their growing pains and triumphs. As adults, they have become strangers to one another until their chance reunion. Although their memories are obscured by the agony of what happened that night so many years ago, Elliot will come to understand the truth behind Macy’s decade-long silence, and will have to overcome the past and himself to revive her faith in the possibility of an all-consuming love.
I’d heard about this book for a while, and it seemed like everyone who read it loved it. I’ve read only one Christina Lauren book before and it was okay to me, so I was hoping I would enjoy this one, and that was definitely the case! Macy and Elliot’s story is so sweet, complicated, heartbreaking, and swoon-worthy. I loved how the book flashed between the past and the present, with their story woven throughout both timelines. From the start, you know something horrible tore the two apart when they were teenagers, but you don’t know exactly what happened. You keep thinking what could have gone so horribly wrong for their lives to split for 11 years! This keeps you in suspense for the entire story, while the romance makes you blush. Be warned, there are a few hanky panky chapters.
I gave this book a 4.5-star rating! I could not put it down. I never saw the ending coming and it just broke me. This was an easy fast read which sucked me in. There was a time or two while reading this book that I wanted to shake both characters – one more than the other. This is the type of book that can easily be read in one day! It pulls at the heartstrings and delivers! I could feel their friendship, their angst, their chemistry, the love, the heartbreak, the spark, the re-connection. While reading this book I felt as if I were on this emotional journey with Macy and Elliot.
I just finished this one and I gave this one 4 stars! I really liked this one! I liked the back and forth time lines. I was on the fence the whole time about will they or won’t they?!?!? I wanted this to be a HEA SOOOO bad! I liked that Eliot and Macy started out being friends and as it grew to something more you could just feel the tension and angst! I was hardcore rooting for these two the whole time. The ending made me go AHHHH and just really like this book. I was disappointed it took them both so long to reconnect and find some closure to their issue. I did want to smack their heads together multiple times! But the cute closet scenes and the sparks that were flying when they were together made this book hard to put down!
