This isn’t your typical romance. The main character is obsessed with serial killers. But this one had me hooked and laughing throughout. I enjoyed the witty, quirky way this was written. If you have a sense of humor that is a little sideways and you enjoy romance, you will like this one!
Phoebe comes from a dysfunctional family. She grew up with her crazy mom and her brother lived with her angry father. This starts out with Phoebe having to go to her father’s house to clean it out after he died. She is in the process of writing her dissertation about true crimes, and finishing her PHD while cleaning out her childhood home. She also gets to reconnect with her brother Connor, who is sweet and a little dorky. Even though she is far from a romantic, Connor coercers her to help him with a proposal for his girlfriend. Which requires a few attempts.
When she first came to her dad’s, she brought a desk that she couldn’t move by herself. Which is how she met her neighbor. He came outside late one night and helped her move it even though she didn’t ask. Sam, the neighbor, has Phoebe’s imagination running wild on what kind of person Sam is. Phoebe listens to true crime podcasts and documentaries so she is certain Sam is a serial killer. She wonders what he was doing outside late at night and why he snuck up on her and then just helped with her desk. She is immediately suspicious of him.
But the more she encounters Sam, the more she learns about him and comes to like him. Sam is a music teacher. All his suspicious behavior can be explained. Will Phoebe trust him enough to let him get close? Is he more dangerous than a serial killer? He is making her feel things she didn’t want to feel. And is that safe?
You have to admit. When you first met me, you were scared. ”
“Because you threatened me with Mace,” Sam pointed out. “And called me my dude in a way that suggested imminent violence. I still thought you were cute. Meanwhile you thought I was a six on your serial killer scale.

I loved the banter between Phoebe and Sam. I laughed quite a bit during this book. And just a warning, there were some open door scenes in this one. The characters had fun chemistry and even the supporting characters were funny. This was a great romance if your a fan of Tessa Bailey or Emily Henry.
