This is an enemies to lovers trope that is in true Hazelwood style and I couldn’t get enough of it. This has the huge hunky guy. The smart, cute, little scientist. And it also had enough drama to hook me in.
Elsie is a Ph.D. in theoretical physics. She has a job as an adjunct professor that she loathes. She dreams about doing a job that centers around research. So to make extra money she “fake dates” people to pay her bills. She lives in the ghetto with her best friend, Cece (who also works with her at her second job). She manages to scrape by while grading papers and answering crazy student emails. Those emails were so hilarious! But she changes her personality faster than she changes her underwear. She becomes the person you want her to be. And she can’t say no to anyone. So her mom takes advantage of her time and mental energy often.
Jack Smith is an experimental theorist. He’s big and broody and yummy. He happens to be the brother of a guy she is fake dating. Jack also happens to be the same guy who wrote an article that ruined her mentor’s career and they have hated him ever since. But he is the guy in charge at the MIT physics department.
Elsie runs him to him at Greg’s family events and then again after she applies at MIT for a job as a professor. So when she realizes that her fake boyfriend’s brother is the Jonathan aka Jack Smith, she instantly is set on edge. You can just imagine where this goes. And to make matters worse, Jack knows about how Elsie makes her personality however the person she is talking to wants it to be. He calls her out on it. So when she finds out he is the decision maker for her job, things get heated!
I think Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood is one of her best books so far. It has great character development, an interesting academic setting, and sexy character chemistry! If you are a fan of Hazelwood’s other books, you can’t miss this one. This is a great rom-com that will make you laugh and swoon.
Five HUGE stars for this novel! I devoured it! I could not get enough of it! I was also very excited when Olive and Adam made an appearance! It’s always fun to catch on to the minor details, but this novel was epic. I have absolutely no complaints about one thing! Ali Hazelwood is a genius and can make any girl who reads her books to believe in love.
