I devour every Abby Jimenez book she releases, so I was super excited about this one—and of course, she delivered. Jimenez can write a romance like nobody’s business. She always knows exactly how to make me care about her characters so deeply that I have to stop adulting just to finish the book. And this one was no exception!

This story follows Samantha and Xavier and their long-distance love story. Xavier is a vet who just opened his own practice, so he’s pouring everything into making it a success. Samantha is a marketing rep for a mustard company (yes, really!), which means she works from home and gets to come up with clever taglines all day. Their worlds collide when Samantha rescues a kitten and brings it to Xavier’s clinic. Their first interaction? Not great. Xavier delivers some rough news: the kitten has no butthole, and the only option he gives is euthanasia.

But Samantha isn’t one to take things at face value. She raises the money needed for the kitten’s surgery and returns to the clinic to tell Xavier—sparking an unexpected connection that leads to a date neither of them saw coming. The date was better than either one expected it to be.

The only problem? Samantha is about to move back across the country to help care for her mother, who has dementia. She doesn’t want to miss another moment with her, and that means leaving Xavier behind. Her family is full of hilarious, lovable characters, which brings a lot of heart and humor to the story. What follows is a long-distance relationship filled with all the ups and downs that come with it. The question is: can Samantha and Xavier make it work?

This book tugged at all my emotional strings—dementia, long-distance love, adorable pets, complicated families… the list goes on. I was genuinely sad to be done with these characters. I can’t recommend this one enough. Five stars aren’t even enough for how much I loved it!
