A maid with a snooping problem and access to all the wealthiest homes in the Portland area, Kit Darling isn’t the typical maid. She sets her timer to snoop and then gets to work after she has given in to her snooping addiction. This was an action packed thrill ride I didn’t know I needed!
Kit had some trauma in her past that is coming back to haunt her when she discovers who her new client is. She decides to keep working at the new client’s place and takes her snooping to a new level beyond her normal addiction.
This is told in multiple timelines, jumping around so we get pieces of the story, until they all connect. This colliding timeline worked so well and had me turning the pages. It’s also told from Daisy’s POV, the client’s wife, and The Maid’s via her Diary entries.
Daisy is pregnant and her husband, Jon was an Olympic medalist so she is trying hard to keep him in line. They moved back to the Portland area to live near Daisy’s family and Jon works for her father. Daisy befriends Vanessa, the owner of the Glass House, who is also pregnant. And Daisy is also the “invisible” maid for the Glass House also. Coincidence??
Then there is the elderly lady who lives next door to the Glass House who see everything and is happy to call the cops on ANYTHING suspicious. So she does just that one night when she hears a scream at the Glass House.
Homicide Detective Mal Van Alst and her partner, Benoit Salamu, are called to a heavily blood-spattered crime scene in the Glass House, where Kit has set the stage for her melt down. But what the detectives don’t find is any bodies.
This one had a plot that moved so quickly and was so action packed! There were lots of characters, but it wasn’t hard to keep track of who was who once I got going. There is a slight content warning about sexual assault, but nothing is really discussed in full detail. This is the first book by White I have read, but won’t be the last. This was masterly done! And for those who like satisfying endings, this is for you! I smiled at the last chapter because it was done so cleverly!
