“I realized that fear, when embraced, hardens and sharpens. That it becomes rage. That it becomes power. I would not die here.”
The adopted human daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, Oraya carved her place in a world designed to kill her. Her only chance to become something more than prey is entering the Kejari, a legendary tournament held by the goddess of death herself. But winning won’t be easy amongst the most vicious warriors from all three vampire houses. To survive, Oraya is forced to make an alliance with a mysterious rival. Everything about Raihn is dangerous. He is a ruthless vampire, an efficient killer, an enemy to her father’s crown… and her greatest competition. Yet, what terrifies Oraya most of all is that she finds herself oddly drawn to him. But there’s no room for compassion in the Kejari. War for the House of Night brews, shattering everything that Oraya thought she knew about her home. And Raihn may understand her more than anyone, but their blossoming attraction could be her downfall, in a kingdom where nothing is more deadly than love.
The second I started it, I couldn’t put this it down. My eyes were glued to the pages. I knew I’d enjoy this book but I didn’t know I’d LOVE it to the point of actually considering how I could cement it into my brain, skin, and body. I was hoping for an epic and edge of your seat adventure with romance that would make my heart beat a little faster, and that is exactly what I got. The romance between Oraya and Raihn made me melt. I loved the progression of their relationship. How patient and understanding Raihn was. His need to protect her. Oraya is just as drawn to him, but she doesn’t offer her trust easily. Everything about this book was so amazing I can see myself re-reading it over and over again.
I gave this novel a HUGE five stars! The only thing I wish I would have done differently with this novel was to have read a physical copy instead of the electronic. There was a glossary at the end of the novel that I would have liked to have known about while reading since world building can be a little hard to remember at times. I will be going on to the next book of course!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I agree with Mels’ review! This was a great, quick read. I’m always up for a good vampire book. I did not expect that ending. I’m not certain if I will read the next book. The action in this one was amazing and I would expect the same from the next and might be disappointed. But this one kept me reading!
