“I want to live on a magical island with my favorite author and be his sidekick……”
Lucy Hart grew up lonely and neglected by her parents and she found solace in Jack Masterson’s Clock island series. Lucy is now a 26 year old teacher’s aide who shares reading with her students. One in particular, 7 year old Christopher, was left orphaned after the death of his parents. She would love more than anything to adopt him, but her home life is a bit hectic. She has roommates, no transportation, and a job that barely pays the bills. So her dream of becoming a family with Christopher might just be a dream.
Then…..Jack Masterson, after 6 years of writing nothing, announces he has finally written a new book and is holding a contest on the real Clock Island and some lucky contestant will be chosen to compete to win the one and only copy of his book. This could just be the lucky break she Lucy been dreaming about.
When she was young, she ran away to Clock Island so she is chosen to return and compete. When she was 13 she had a crush on the very young illustrator of the books and is now face to face with him. Hugo Reese is not only the illustrator, but also lives on the island with Jack. Will good or bad sparks fly between them?
I loved the twist ending and the journey through this book. It reminded me of Willy Wonka meets Peter Pan. I have heard some negative reviews about a romance with Lucy and Hugo but they are both adults now so I don’t think it should be frowned on. I thought this book was a bit magical and cute. It could easily be YA but also for adults. It has one of those “makes you feel young again” vibes. It was a quick read and I enjoyed this one!
