With My Little Eye is a domestic suspense. I think it took me a few minutes to get into this one, but once the action got going, I was hooked. This is packed with suspense right up to the very end. Jackson’s characters are so complex that I find them interesting. I especially liked the daughter, who was an autistic 13 year old who only knows how to “say it like it is.” The plot was thrilling. The only thing I took issue with is the main character, Meribel. She seemed a little vain, but I eventually was ok with her.
In With My Little Eyes, Meribel is an actress who was once famous, but is now aging but she has a fan who is stalking her. The stalker is called Marker Man because he sends her drawings made with scented markers. These drawings often depict Meribel being hurt somehow. She moved her adopted 13 year old autistic daughter back to her home town to be further away from her stalker. She left her home and friends behind. She also left a boyfriend she was starting to fall for.
When she gets to Atlanta, she lives down the hall from Cooper. He is another guy who seems obsessed with Meribel. When her ex, Cam, shows up in Atlanta, I had to roll my eyes at the absurdity of all the guys obsessed with Meribel. All the while I was questioning everyone for being Marker Man. Cooper accused Cam of conviently showing up in Meribel’s life to rescue her and making her believer he was the stalker. Cam thought maybe Cooper somehow convinced her to move to this building and it was him. Meribel was daydreaming it was a different ex that lived in Atlanta, and who, ironically, she stalks his wife on Instagram. At least Meribel could admit that while she was being stalked, she was stalking someone online.
While all of this is happening, Honor, the 13 year old autistic girl, and a neighboring teen make friends with a homeless girl and are trying to sneak her in the building so she doesn’t have to be outside. Who is this girl and where did she come from?
There is so much action going on in this book. I wasn’t sure I was going to like this one at first, but I ended up really liking it. I was a little disappointed that the end left me wanting more. Jackson doesn’t usually do sequels, so I’m not hopeful that we will see more of these characters. But I do think it was Jackson’s intention to leave us wanting more. I think the characters were well written and developed. Once the plot got moving, I couldn’t put this book down. I would recommend this for fans of Megan Miranda or Taylor Adams.
