16 Advantages to being a Member at your Local Library

Did you know that you can do more than just check out books at the library? This article will pertain to the Watertown Regional Library in Watertown, SD, but it is relevant to most libraries across the country. The Library is such an essential resource to a community and I don’t know if many people are aware of all of the wonderful things it has to offer. And all these things are free of charge with a Library card! It’s so simple. Below are some of the advantages that come with having a library card:

  1. Access to a free hotspot rental

2. Check out golf clubs (and a wide list of other various items)

3. Learn to play the Ukulele

4. Unlimited E-book & Audio book access using the Libby app. Click here on a “How to use Libby” demonstration.

5. Free monthly book box subscription program – For more information on the book box program: Once a month you will get a box with a library book that a librarian has personally selected for you, the box also contains a trinket and treats! You do need an active Watertown library card to sign up. (To sign up: We have a form you can fill out that let us know of your reading preferences. 6. Use of the computer room.

7. Free use of private study rooms.

8. Join a Book club (various times/days) or other various clubs.

*As a member of the Evening Book Club, I highly recommend this! Contact your. local Library for more info about their book club or other club’s they offer.

Huge children’s area with Children’s Play Space with the newly updated Sensory and Nursing Room.  The Sensory and Nursing Room features new furniture for children and adults, furry, shag rugs, mirrors, a 6 foot bubble tube floor lamp with a kaleidoscope of lights, and a mesmerizing sensory sequin wall board. Also don’t miss out on Story Times & Lego Club.

10. Borrow a Zoo pass.

11. Borrow a state park pass (Thanks to the Watertown Library, many libraries across the State are part of the Check Out South Dakota State Parks program)

12. Free movie & music rentals. (they also have a wide selection of magazines also!)

13. Check out a side by side tandem bike, kids bike, or adult’s bike.

14. The Annual Friends of the Library Book Sale – to us book nerds, this is like Christmas! A huge Room filled with books as far as the eye can see….it’s magical! This usually takes place in September.

15. The Watertown Regional Library (along with many other libraries) offers a ScanEZ machine that scans, faxes, copies, & translates documents for you.

16. Last but not least, Check out Books!
