This is the Cane Brothers book 2 and I loved this one as much as the first one. This is a new take on When Harry Met Sally. This is a spicy, yet funny romance. Meghan Quinn is the queen of witty, funny banter. I laughed during this one just as much as her first one.

Because I want you to think I’m a good guy despite how I act. I want you to see that I like you, but am afraid to tell you because there’s a great possibility you will laugh in my face. I want you to give me a chance. To date me . . .

This was JP and Kelsey’s story. We meet them in the first book, but this one tells their story. I think the consensus is that we hate Kelsey. Buuuut…I loved JP. JP has a notion that men and women can’t be friends and work together. I don’t agree with that. JP’s issue was that he was attracted to Kelsey and that she was attracted to him. Kelsey & Lottie had just started working for JP’s company and was under his management so she didn’t want to blur the lines. So the whole time she was trying to escape his notice, he was chasing after her hard core.

I liked that JP fell for her first. And a book with forced proximity is right up my alley! I enjoyed the back and forth banter between Kelsey & JP, even when it got a little heated, it was just the foreplay for them. And can I just say that JP’s obsession with donating to pigeons just made me laugh so hard!! Like who donates to save pigeons?!?! He started off this book as a lost, confused boy, but his character grew into something so much more. He stuck with his feelings for Kelsey and the drama leading up to the ending made me like his character so much more.

I was excited to delve deeper into Kelsey’s character since I absolutely adored her and wanted to hear more about her after the first book. She was the steady voice of reason and such a reliable confidante for Lottie and I just thought she would be such a strong character in this book. But, I gotta be honest, I didn’t vibe with her character as much this time around. She seemed stuck in this cycle of chasing love but only going for the safe bets. It was frustrating to watch her brush off JP just because of this whole “he’s not into commitment” notion, even though he was clearly into her. And yeah, while the drama towards the end was intense, I felt like Kelsey kinda went overboard and let her own insecurities take over. Still, their relationship and story were pretty engaging overall. I did race through this one even though I didn’t vibe with Kelsey like I wanted to.

The witty banter, the funny scenes, and the romantic/spicy scenes just made me love Meghan Quinn even more. She has a way with this sub-genre! I am determined to get through all her books. I liked JP’s character as the male lead the best out of this series, but enjoyed Kelsey the least.

  1. BOOOOO!! The only reason this book was not DNF’d was because of my love for JP. I can’t even understand how this is the same author who wrote the first book. Kelsey is the worst person I have ever met! And thank the Lord that she is not real because I would have a huge urge to go punch her in the tit and possible slab her ovaries so she could never reproduce offspring. What a TERRIBLE character! JP deserve so much better! He basically changed his entire being to make her happy and all she did was whine and complain about how she never feels loved and no one wants her and wahh wahh wahh. Shut the fuck up Kelsey, you suck!
