“If you wanted, I would burn down the world for you.”

“She felt like heaven to my hell, the closest I’d ever get to salvation, and yet I still wanted to drag her into the depths of Hades with me.”

This novel follows Ava Chen. When Ava’s brother leaves town for a year, he asks his best friend, Alex Volkov to watch out for her. While Ava is a cheerful, romantic senior in college with a passion for photography, Alex is a brooding businessman with his eyes set on exacting revenge. They couldn’t be more different and yet, after Alex moves in next door to keep a close eye on Ava, their relationship begins to change. As it does, secrets from both Ava’s and Alex’s past emerge that puts them both at risk.

So, this book wasn’t a bad book, but it wasn’t a particularly great book either. It had the grumpy and sunshine trope which I know a lot of people like, I love it as well, but the execution of the progression of the relationship fell flat for me. Alex was not somebody I particularly warmed up to you. I enjoyed the angst but by the time they got together it felt a bit anticlimactic. He was behaving all aloof with Ava and then suddenly he’s emotionally all about her. I wasn’t really convinced. Twisted Love is a typical new adult book with a lot of spicy romance and not much substance, character development, or complexity.

I gave this book a two-star rating because it is absolutely not appropriate. It is meant for mature audiences (18+) given that there are many chapters that contain physical violence and explicit sexual content. I do enjoy some smut chapters every now and then, but this was not at all flattering. There are three more novels in the series, though they can also be read as a standalone, but I will be skipping the last three.
