“Even when you have nothing left in your life, hope is the one thing that can never be taken away.”

“Did he love her? He loved parts of her. But the question isn’t whether or not he loved her. The question is… did he kill her?”

This novel follows a married couple, Sarah and Adam Morgan. Sarah is a successful and powerful defense attorney in Washington D.C. At 33 years old, she is a named partner at her firm and life is going exactly how she planned. Adam is a struggling writer who has had little success in his career. He begins to tire of his and Sarah’s relationship as she is constantly working. Out in the secluded woods, at Adam and Sarah’s second home, Adam engages in a passionate affair with Kelly Summers. Then, one morning everything changes. Adam is arrested for Kelly’s murder. She had been found stabbed to death in Adam and Sarah’s second home. Sarah soon finds herself playing the defender for her own husband, a man accused of murdering his mistress. But is Adam guilty or is he innocent?

Woah! This book was a game changer! I am an avid book reader and went into this book with the confidence that I was smart and had it all figured out…. Not even close! Not even remotely close! This book had my jaw to the floor speechless! The twist was great and unlike other psychological thrillers who have done the same.  I especially enjoyed Adam`s strange behavior and the way the author portrayed his thought process throughout his case. What I didn`t like was that the police didn`t do their job when there were clearly other avenues to explore. I did not find their lack of work believable and felt it was just put in to add more drama to the storyline.

I gave this book a 4.5 star-rating.  I thought this was an extremely well written story with an intricate plot and skillfully drawn characters. It was a real page turner, roller coaster of a ride with twists and turns that seem to spin out of control. The ending was explosive and totally unexpected.
