In order to protect her kingdom from the wrath of a vengeful goddess, Princess Candra must remain locked inside a tower for seven years. Seven long years without a friend, or a lover, by her side. And shut inside the tower with her? A Fellian, the enemy of her people, a fearsome warrior race complete with wings and claws and fangs. Nemeth is terrifying, cruel, and disturbingly magnetic. Candra should kill him for his supplies, but she’s desperate for his company…and his touch. As time inside the unchanging tower rolls on, Candra uncovers the man behind the stony facade. And when their tenure hits an unexpected snag, Candra and Nemeth are forced to make a difficult choice. They’ll need to face an outside world they no longer recognize, one that threatens their lives and their surprising love.
This is the first book I have ever read by Ruby Dixon, and I went into this blindly. I was thinking it was going to be a very smutty fantasy romance, which it was but I did not realize how she writes her main male characters to be supernatural creatures. This through me for a loop for a bit since I do not picture my sexy males to be gray skin colored and have horns. This a side, it ended up being a great read. It hit all the marks! Hot sex, action and adventure, love and loss, betrayal and loyalty!
This novel had an incredibly intriguing plot. I loved how clues and tidbits of information are dropped throughout the story but you don’t fully realize it until the end. Once the plot twist is revealed, you can go back through the story and see things a little bit differently than when you first read them. This is a slowly paced story, a true slow burn romance, for sure. There were times when I felt like the story was dragging on but I stuck with it and eventually the momentum picks up.
I rated this novel four stars. Overall I liked this story. I liked how the forced proximity romance developed, the magic made sense and even though the plot twist was a bit predictable, the story felt pretty well rounded.
A special thanks to NetGalley and W by Wattpad Books for providing me with a digital reviewer copy of this erotic, fantasy, romantic read in exchange for my honest thoughts.
