I wanted to know if this lived up to the hype!
I didn’t follow his story in the press and never really knew much about his mother but was interested in what his book was about because I’ve heard so much about it lately. I listened to this on audio and I would say YES, this is worth the hype!
After reading this, I felt sorry for Harry. I didn’t realize how traumatized he was by the sound of a camera or by the paparazzi. He started off telling about how his mother died and how he feels the paparazzi was to blame and didn’t feel bad. I couldn’t believe hearing about how they were all taking pics of Princess Diana and no one was helping her! I was pretty young when she died, so I don’t remember many of the details, but that had to have been an absolute horror for a young boy who had to get it all splashed over the media daily.
Also, not to miss, was how during his service in the military he got frostbite. That might not seem too racey…..buuuuuut……he got frostbite on his toes, his fingers, and oh ya, his penis. He tells all about that incident! It’s done in a humorous way and I was laughing the entire time! Did he need to include that part…no, but it did give a little humor to a dramatic story.
We also get to hear about how information on not only Harry & Meghan were leaked to the press, but other royals as well. His relationship with his brother was tense most of the time because it seemed like the press was always trying to pit them against each other.
I loved hearing about how his relationship with Meghan began. Harry seems more sensitive than I would have thought. I definitely feel like he is more down to earth than I ever thought. I would highly recommend this book to anyone questioning if they should pick it up or not. It gave me all the feels. I was angered on Harry and Meghan’s behalf. I felt pity for their situation of having no privacy and not having much family support. I am glad they found each other and have a cute little family.
