“No two persons ever read the same book.” This is the framework for this book and how I went into thinking about this book as I was reading it. This book was an interesting take on books and reading. How thoughtful Bauermeister is! The more I thought about this book, the more I liked it. This book would make for excellent discussion.

Each chapter in this book is about a different person. It starts out with Alice and how she is writing a book called Theo. She struggled for years before finally completing Theo. In the next chapter, we met the Publishing Assistant. She has to find a book out of the slush pile and we see how this one affects her life. Next it is the famous Actor, who is so struck by this book that he decided to narrate the audiobook for Theo. We get a glimpse into his life and how this one book so strongly affected his life that is changed his career path. And then the Homeless teenager who is living in the shed behind the Prep school she is attending on scholarship. When she encounters the book, it touches her life in such a powerful way. And on and on this story goes. I think the teenage girl’s story was my favorite.

It is amazing to me how each person touches this book and how their life changes. Each person was dealing with something in their lives that made them connect to this book in such a way that only books can. This was like a series of short stories that were tied together with an invisible thread in the end. This was a very touching story about the power of books and reading.
