“Some people need a hundred words to express a single thought, while some people only need one word to share a hundred thoughts.”

This is the second in the Dreamland Billionaires series, following up after The Fine Print. Declan is ready to be the next CEO of his family’s company. However, when his grandfather passed, part of his inheritance clause included him getting married and having an heir. This proves to be quite difficult because Declan is not the type to waste his time with dating and relationships. Iris has been Declan’s assistant for many years and is given the task of weeding through various options for Declan’s future wife. When the woman who agreed to marry Declan backed out on the day of their engagement party, Iris had the grand idea of agreeing to marry Declan to help her friend. They would marry, act in love for the public, have a baby, and convince Declan’s grandfather’s lawyer that their relationship is real, all so Declan could gain his inheritance and claim his position as CEO. But the more time they spend together, the more they realize they’re not faking their relationship anymore.

I had high hoped for this one since it was rated the best in this series. Sadly, it was not as good as I was wanting it to be. I think the main reason I had trouble with this one was due to the fake marriage. Now I am a HUGE faking dating trope, but an actual marriage?! I just can’t buy into it. I started to like the book better when Declan made up his mind in the second half and decided to chase Iris. The trope where the guy falls first always hit some kind of way and when all the little things Declan did for Iris over the years were revealed. At the end of the day, no matter how many clichés and daddy issues it presented me with, it made for a relatively entertaining read and somehow flew by quickly despite its length.

I gave this book a 3.5 star rating. This wasn’t bad, it was just very… meh. I liked Rowan a lot more than Declan but Iris is literally a copy of Zahra. I mean, is there a thing for women who laugh way too much and unnecessarily that men find attractive??
