Anyone who has ever felt stuck in their twenties, unsure of their purpose or still healing from loss, Passion Project will feel like a comforting, witty hug wrapped in a hopeful love story. London Sperry’s debut novel is a romantic comedy that’s just as much about rediscovering joy as it is about falling in love—and it’s a strong start for a new author.

Bennet Taylor’s life is not exactly thriving. Temping in New York City, floating without direction, and still grieving the loss of her first love, she’s emotionally adrift. Then, after standing up Henry Adams for a first date, fate throws them back together—leading to an alcohol-fueled confession: she’s not ready to date and hasn’t felt passionate about anything in years. Rather than walking away, Henry suggests a new kind of adventure. Each Saturday, they’ll try something new together to help Bennet find a spark—strictly as friends.

Their “passion project” takes them everywhere from pottery studios to rooftop rappelling, and along the way, Bennet begins to reconnect not just with the world but with herself. The chemistry between Bennet and Henry is sweet and believable, with sparkling banter and a slow burn that pays off in a small dose of open-door romance toward the end.

For a debut, this was a really enjoyable read. I liked following Bennet’s journey as she slowly started to come back to life—and Henry? Such a cute, charming character. Their dynamic was fun, and the banter made their connection feel natural. I also appreciated the way grief was explored in the story. It wasn’t something I expected going in, but it worked well and didn’t overwhelm the lighter tone. It made Bennet’s growth feel real. The book moves quickly and would be a perfect summer read—fun, heartfelt, and easy to sink into.

Passion Project is a compassionate, hopeful story about healing, rediscovering yourself, and learning to let love in again. With its emotional depth, flirty dialogue, and unique premise, it’s more than just a rom-com—it’s a story that reminds us that love often finds us when we’re finally ready to welcome it. Whether you’re in the mood for something heartfelt or just looking for your next feel-good summer read, this one’s worth picking up.
