I’ve been meaning to pick up a Catherine Cowles book for a while, and this one did not disappoint. Across the Vanishing Sky blends romantic suspense with emotional depth in a way that kept me fully invested from start to finish.

The premise immediately pulled me in.  There’s something so compelling about a character returning to a place filled with painful memories, determined to uncover the truth. Braedyn was easy to root for; I loved that she never gave up hope when it came to finding her best friend. Her strength and persistence really grounded the story and gave it heart.

And then there’s Dex. A brooding, protective mountain man with a troubled past? Yes, please. His character had that perfect mix of guarded vulnerability and quiet intensity. You could really feel his internal struggle—the desire to trust someone again battling against everything he’s been through. The way he showed up for Brae absolutely gave me all the feels. I’ll never get tired of a strong, protective love interest, and Dex delivered on that front.

The suspense element kept the pages turning, with enough tension and mystery to balance out the romance. I also loved the found family vibes woven throughout the story. It added warmth and made the relationships feel even more meaningful.

My only small complaint was the use of teen slang, which felt a little out of place at times. That said, it did make me laugh, so it didn’t take away too much from the overall experience.

Overall, this was a solid 4-star read for me. If you enjoy romantic suspense with emotional depth, protective heroes, and a strong sense of found family, this one is definitely worth picking up.
