Yellowface is one of those books that after finishing it, you will want to re-read it. It isn’t long but it is full of emotion.

This one deals with so many different things in such a short time. It deals with racism, plagiarism, the stresses of being a writer, jealousy, friendship, and the publishing industry. All these things interested me.

Athena Liu is a famous writer who is beloved by all. June Hayward is a struggling writer who is a nobody. But she is friends with Athena. So they meet one night and June witnesses her death from a freak choking accident. During the excitement, she grabs Athena’s latest manuscript. Then she sells it as her own. The drama and excitement ratchets up in this one quickly.

This was a crazy ride! I thought this was suspenseful and intriguing. I thought the characters were so complex and interesting. I wanted to dislike June at first, but as the story progressed, I felt sorry for her. The publishing industry is shown in it’s true light and we see how social media and can really crush a person. I didn’t want to put this book down. The characters were highly complex. The plot was fast paced. This was packed with emotion.
